The NCMHJJ works with states, Indian nations, and local jurisdictions to develop improved policies and programs for youth with behavioral health needs in contact with the juvenile justice system. Using a cross-systems mapping and strategic planning process, the NCMHJJ facilitates planning and implement efforts among multi-disciplinary teams of senior-level policy makers and stakeholders that result in:

  • increased cross-systems communication and collaboration
  • early identification of youth with behavioral health conditions
  • improved service linkage and service coordination
  • reduced risk of youth recycling through the juvenile justice system
  • better outcomes for youth and families
  • enhanced community safety and quality of life
