The Report of the Attorney General’s National Taskforce on Children Exposed to Violence summarizes the national epidemic of harm caused to children by exposure to violence. Following the summary is a series of recommendations in the areas of ending the epidemic itself, identifying children exposed, treatment and healing for those exposed, the creation of safe and nurturing homes & peaceful, nonviolent communities, and rethinking the juvenile justice system. These recommended goals are accompanied by concrete objectives that the taskforce believes are necessary for achieving the larger goal of reducing children’s exposure to violence and alleviating the effects of previous exposure. Years of research justify each goal and objective, and this report as a whole provides a survey of the issues surrounding child trauma from exposure to violence in America.
