New Publication on Substance Abuse and Juvenile JusticeThe Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) has announced the availability of "Detection and Prevalence of Substance Use Among Juvenile Detainees", a bulletin which presents data from the Northwestern Juvenile Project's study of youth detained in the Cook County, IL Detention Center. The study confirms a high rate of drug use among detainees and identifies categories of detainees who require special attention. The authors conclude that the best approach to detection is to combine self-reporting with urinalysis and also use other resources such as treatment and drug arrest histories and information from schools and families. http://ojjdp.ncjrs.org/publications/pubabstract.asp?pubi=11680 |
