News article highlights prevalence of mental health problems in Texas juvenile detention center

A May 8, 2008 article from the Houston Chronicle reported that nearly half of the youths locked up at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center suffer from mental health problems. Nearly 20% of youth have severe emotional disorders and a quarter of them have never been previously diagnosed. This new information is the result of Operation Redirect, a local group that has been screening youth in juvenile detention for mental health problems. For a copy of this article, visit:
