New Report from the Justice Policy Institute – Cost Effective Corrections

The Justice Policy Institute recently released a report entitled “Cost Effective Youth Corrections: Rationalizing the Fiscal Architecture of the Juvenile Justice Systems”. The report finds that by altering their funding structure, states can reduce the number of placements in secure correctional facilities, increase the number of youth kept at home, and yield better outcomes for youth. The report profiles a number of states that have altered the fiscal architecture of their juvenile justice systems, including Pennsylvania, California, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Illinois.
